Web Based Computing and Programming

Overview

Fancy becoming a web developer? This course will cover the essentials to kick-start your ambitions.

Whether you’re after a brand new career or new skills to progress in your current workplace, we can offer you a flexible route to success.

Through face-to-face classes, online sessions with a company and independent study, you will cover a range of topics to help you with programming in a web environment.

You’ll learn how to design, develop, test and deploy web applications. We’ll also show you how to understand current trends in web design, and how to improve a website for a specific audience or device.

The course will help you master programming concepts used in actual industry settings. We’ve also partnered with an employer to give you real world challenges to complete.

The content includes: agile software approaches; designing for mobile and desktop devices; HTML, CSS and JavaScript; problem solving and algorithms; accessing simple data sources; and debugging tips when problems are found.

Course delivery

The short course will include lectures and practical sessions. Your time attending classes could be split between one of our partner colleges and Staffordshire University’s main campus.

There will also be online sessions with a company to give you an insight into how these skills are applied in the workplace.

We are working with South Staffordshire College and Burton and South Derbyshire College on delivering the module.

Assessment

You will be given a design brief related to web computing and will be asked to come up with a first draft prototype.

You will also create and test a final solution for a web based application. Through a 10-minute presentation, you will be asked to reflect on the built application and test results.
