Web Based Computing

Overview

This course looks at how current trends are used in the development of websites. It looks at both scripting and mark-up languages. Learners will develop the knowledge of how to design, implement and test aspects of a webpage.

Course overview 

This course is designed to help people in new creating websites. The learner will do the following:

  • Know what web standards are about and what makes up a web page
  • Utilise the latest tools to analyse their current web applications
  • Look at the importance of media on web applications
  • Look at the importance of accessibility
  • Look at ways to test a web application
  • Create a simple web page using current web standards step by step and host it on a free server

 

Course aims

  • Understand the importance of testing web applications, especially those created by third parties and auto-generators
  • Know the basic building blocks of a web application

Fiona is a senior lecturer in Computer Science, specialising in web development, user interfaces and mobile application development. She is a second-year leader for Computer Science, and is a specialist on the web and software development routes.
