Whether you’re applying to Staffordshire University, another institution within the UK, or even both, we can assure you that the power is always in your hands! You choose where you want to be, and with Clearing you have the best chance of getting a good University offer.

There is a historical stigma attached to applying through Clearing. However, we can assure you that clearing is actually one of the best opportunities you will ever get to make a change to your future career, whether you have the grades you wanted or not.

Top 5 myths associated with Clearing

Myth one: Not many people go through Clearing

According to WhatUni, UCAS processed 73,320 students through the Clearing process in 2020. Whatever your reasons for applying through Clearing, you are definitely not alone!

Myth two: Clearing is for students who don’t have good results

This is not true at all. Clearing is simply an application process that’s built around traditional results days. In fact, a lot of students actually hold off applying to or accepting offers from universities until Clearing, as traditionally the entry requirements for universities of varying prestige are lowered to ensure full cohorts for the coming academic year. Plus, it might give you that extra bit of time on your decision of what and where to study, which is always a bonus!

Myth three: Clearing students stick out from the crowd

When you start your course, nobody will know you applied through Clearing unless you tell them. But even if you do, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, we can assure you that none of your peers will be interested in how or when you filled out your application, they’ll just be glad you’re there to share their University experience.

Myth four: Courses offered through Clearing are the ones nobody wanted

You will find every type of course through Clearing, and there are a whole variety of reasons they might not be full. For example, when students don’t get the results they were looking for, they may have dropped out of their application, declined an offer last minute, or maybe the course has only just opened! The Clearing process runs UK wide through Universities with all types of reputation and prestige, so don’t write anything off until you’ve done your research.

Myth five: Clearing is rushed and stressful

The Clearing process is late in the application cycle for the next academic year, so it does bring with it a little more urgency and require snappier decision making than if you’d applied 12 months previously. Just remember, you aren’t under any pressure to make a decision during the process, and it does last right up until the start of the academic year. Also, most universities have application and Clearing support on-hand to help guide you through the process in the most efficient way possible.
