Erasmus, work experience and volunteering abroad
There are lots of exciting opportunities for you to add a global edge to your degree course. Spending time abroad during your degree course will help you to make connections globally, expanding your network and widening your skills and exposure to adjusting to new environments. Not to mention the new and exciting cultures and places you could explore.
Erasmus
The Erasmus programme provides funding to help you study, work or volunteer in Europe. Study opportunities are available at our partner universities. This means that certain costs will be covered making it accessible to most students. Find out more about where you can go by visiting our Erasmus pages.
Work experience and volunteering
We have relationships with institutions and organisations worldwide where you could have the opportunity to study, gain work experience or volunteer. These opportunities can be tailored to what you are looking to do, or be part of summer work placements, summer schools or volunteer programmes. Email erasmus@staffs.ac.uk to get more information.

Six reasons to make your degree global
1. Experience different cultures
You will be living within a different culture – take the opportunity to eat the local cuisine, find out where the locals go for entertainment and see some of the sites that define where you are.
2. Explore new places
Whilst you are away, why not take the opportunity to see as much as you can in the country you’re visiting. Some of our students who go to Europe even use it as an opportunity to travel to other countries nearby.
3. Expand your network globally
You’ll meet so many new people; other students and friends! Depending on the type of experience you choose, you could make professional contacts as well.
4. Enhance your employability
Students who go abroad are 10% more likely to be in ‘Graduate’ jobs and 7% higher average wage earners 6 months after graduation compared to those who don’t.
5. Evolve your skills
Your communication skills in particular will evolve, but you will also become more adaptable to different ways of working and living situations – not to mention the knowledge you’ll gain about where you choose to go.
6. Enrich your experience
Experiencing a new culture can help you to develop your confidence and be more aware of the world around. What’s more, you will learn the values of other cultures and be more open to new ideas.
