July 2020 – Summer Graduation Postponement Frequently Asked Questions

Why have the Summer Awards been postponed?

Graduation is the highlight of our University calendar and each year we work hard to deliver an event that gives you and your loved ones the perfect opportunity to celebrate all of your hard work. Unfortunately, as you will be aware, there is an ongoing outbreak of the novel coronavirus, now named COVID-19, that has resulted in the cancellation of events around the globe. We want to assure you that Staffordshire University is monitoring the situation closely and are taking steps to protect health and wellbeing of our University community. We are following guidance issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), Public Health England (PHE) and the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and have taken the difficult decision to postpone our Summer Awards Ceremonies until later on in the year. We will be in touch with information closer to the time and look forward to celebrating with you and your guests in the autumn.

I’ve already booked my place, what will happen now?

We will now be processing the records to ensure all students who were eligible to complete in July are deferred to our next available Graduation Ceremony. All guest ticket costs will now be refunded to the card which was used to pay for the tickets. We cannot cover any other expenses incurred.

How will I get a refund?

You will automatically get a refund for any guest tickets you have bought.

If you have booked your academic dress, you will need to contact Wippells directly via their contact form here: https://www.wippellgownhire.co.uk/questions/cancelling-an-order

When will I be refunded by?

We are processing refunds as quickly as we can. Once processed, refunds take up to 5 working days to appear back to the card used to pay for the tickets. We are aiming to have all refunds processed by the 27th March 2020.

When will the next Graduation Ceremonies take place?

The next Graduation Ceremonies will now be held in the autumn, and will be combined with the Autumn Ceremonies. They will be held at Trentham Gardens. Bookings for the ceremony will open closer to the time and this will be communicated with all students in due cause.
