We have written detailed guidance about the Short-Term Study visa application process, including what documents you will need, why an application might be unsuccessful, and how to apply. You can read this guidance in this PDF document.
A Short-Term Study visa is valid for 6 months and is a suitable option for students coming to the UK for less than 6 months for one of the following reasons:
To study on a short course
To attend their viva
To attend part of a distance learning programme
To undertake research in the United Kingdom for a short period
For resit exams
To make a successful Short-Term Study visa application, you must demonstrate that:
Your application may be refused if you continuously apply for visitor visas in the UK and it is evident that you spend more time in the UK than in your home country; or you need to be in the UK to study for periods of longer than 6 months.
If you need to be in the UK for longer than 6 months to study; then please contact International Student Support at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can discuss your options. Please be aware that your STSV request is subject to any fees and/or deposits having been paid and cleared.
Please note that if you have a Short-Term Study visa, you are not able to work or make a visa extension in the UK. More information about the Short-Term Study visa can be found on the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) and the UK Visas and Immigration Office (UKVI) websites.
