Entering the UK and enrolment

Congratulations! You’ve secured a place on your course and have your visa to study – you’re on your way.

Here’s some practical advice about arriving in the UK. We’ll help you settle in and enrol at our International Welcome Week.

Entering the UK

EU/EEA nationality: You can use the EEA/EU channel to get your passport/EU identity card checked. (N.B This route is normally faster than the other channels).

Non EEA/EU nationality: On the plane, you’ll be asked to complete a landing card to present at the border. You’ll be asked why you are coming to the UK and will need to show your:

  • Passport
  • Visa (if you have this already)
  • CAS, University offer letter
  • Finance documents
  • UKVI home office letter

Make sure these important documents are in your hand luggage not your checked luggage!

For further details about entering the UK, please see GOV.uk

If, for any reason, you are refused entry once you land at the airport, please contact International Student Support on +44 (0)1782 294711.

International enrolment

Online enrolment

The first step is to complete your online enrolment. You’ll be sent a link to this once you’ve received your unconditional offer and paid your deposit (if necessary). This must be completed as soon as possible, and before you can enrol face-to-face on campus. If you come across any issues during your online enrolment, please email T4queries@staffs.ac.uk with your student reference number and details of the issue.

International Welcome Week and enrolment

You’ll receive a friendly welcome at Staffordshire University. On arrival, you’ll join a week of organised activities where you’ll meet other students as well get help finding your way around. You’ll meet the International team who are here to support you and they’ll ensure you’re ready for enrolment.

Please see our welcome pages for more information on your welcome programme.

Face-to-face enrolment

Before departure, you’ll be sent details of where and when you need to go to complete your face-to-face enrolment at the University. Please make sure you bring all the necessary documentation. If not, you’ll be asked to retrieve them, which will delay the process. You can find details of what is required on our website.

Your student ID card

Once you’ve completed your online enrolment and your face-to-face enrolment, you’ll be able to collect your student ID card.

Collecting your biometric residence permit

Please make sure you check your UKVI letter for details of where to collect your biometric residence permit (BRP). If it says Staffordshire University, you can collect it during your face-to-face enrolment. If it says to collect it from a post office, you must take your passport and UKVI letter. You’ll not be able to complete your face-to-face enrolment unless we have seen and scanned your BRP.
