A Staffordshire graduate landed a position at the BBC just days before attending his graduation at Trentham Estate.
Liam Maxwell, who completed his degree in BA(Hons) Film, TV and Radio Studies will take up the position of Assistant Media Scheduler with the BBC based at Media City, Manchester in October.
”It will involve scheduling all the programmes on the TV, putting information online and scheduling for radio as well,” said Liam.
“The University has been really great and since the news came out about me getting the job they have all been sending me messages of congratulations - they can’t believe it. Even my award leader Stephen Griffiths emailed the Vice-Chancellor and told him all about me,” he explained.
Liam will be relocating to Manchester from Stoke-on-Trent where he has lived his entire life. The 22-year-old has already been back to Media City to see where he’ll be working and meet his future colleagues.
“I applied online and then they offered me an interview, I attended the interview and then to be told just four days later that I was the most incredible candidate for the job. It was just surreal,” he said.
Liam believes the combination of the course and portfolio of extensive work experience has helped him land the role with the BBC.
“The course is incredible, you learn so much about the various different aspects of the media from the three choices of career that you can choose.
“I’ve done a lot of community-based radio station work at Cre8 and Stafford FM.”
