Awards screenings set to get film fans animated

“For the Animation Courses here at Staffordshire University to have two films selected is amazing and a massive honour – especially when you consider that the BAAs represent the best of animation from the past two years.”

Stuart Messinger, Award Leader for Stop Motion Animation and Puppet Making

Films fans are being invited to help select the winners for this year's British Animation Awards at public screenings held by Staffordshire University.

The University's Animation Department is hosting screenings for the Public Choice Award this month and movie lovers can see the shortlisted films on campus in the Flaxman Film Theatre.

Two of the nominees are Staffordshire graduates Cat Hayes (pictured) and Jack Goodege who have been shortlisted for their films Coupling and The Expirables, with Cat also getting a nod in the Best Student (Undergraduate) Film category.

Award Leader for BA (Hons) Animation and BA (Hons) Stop Motion Animation and Puppet Making Stuart Messinger said: “For the Animation Courses here at Staffordshire University to have two films selected is amazing, and a massive honour – especially when you consider that the BAAs are held bi-annually and represent the best of animation from the past two years.”

The Public Choice events are a chance not only to see a fantastic mix of short films, animated commercials and music videos but also a chance to vote for the winners in the British Animation Awards 2016.

Stuart added: “We're really pleased to continue our support of the British Animation Awards this year by holding the Public Choice Screenings. These events provide the opportunity to see a great selection of work from around the world. It’s like a mini-festival on our door-step!”

The next Public Choice Award screenings will be held in the Flaxman Film Theatre, College Road, Stoke Campus:

PROGRAMME 2 - WEDNESDAY 03rd February, 1PM

PROGRAMME 3 - WEDNESDAY 10th February, 1PM

Tickets cost £4 per screening event and can be bought on the University website.
