Business community invited to Be Inspired

Stephen Burgin

A SERIES of guest lectures which aims to inspire greater confidence and collaboration among North Staffordshire’s business community is to be launched this month.

Hosted by Staffordshire University’s Business School and supported by the Institute of Directors, the ‘Be Inspired’ series will launch on December 10 with a presentation from Steve Burgin, UK President of engineering giant Alstom.

Steve, a graduate of Staffordshire University and now Chair of its Board of Governors, will talk about the challenges of leadership in the economic downturn.

Dean of the University’s Business School Professor Susan Foreman said: “Steve Burgin is a local man with valuable experience of business, industry and the global marketplace. We are delighted that he is launching this series of inspirational talks which will provide an excellent opportunity for networking and collaboration.”

“The series is subsidised through the University’s Futures programme which secured funding to assist businesses through the worst of the recession. We are hopeful that the series will provide a platform for us to work with local business leaders towards a brighter future.”

Stoke-based entrepreneur Mark Lewis, who is CEO of the Adventure Group, will be the main speaker at a ‘Be Inspired’ event on January 21 and John O’ Reilly, Managing Director of Ladbrokes Online and a former lecturer of Staffordshire University, is to speak at the event scheduled for April 15.

The series is being promoted through Business Link, Business Initiative, Business Brokers and the North Staffs Chamber networks but anyone who wants to find out more can contact Jodie Cochrane on 01782 294008 or email
