“This honour is well deserved as David is tireless in his commitment to Higher Education and the University's vision to transform the lives of individuals and communities we serve."
Professor Liz Barnes, Vice-Chancellor
Staffordshire University Chair of Governors David Gage has spoken of his delight at being awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours.
David, who has served on the University’s Board of Governors since 2009, and as its Chair since 2015, is recognised both for services to business and Higher Education.
A great ambassador for the county, David worked in senior roles at NatWest Bank PLC until early retirement in 2000 and has since committed himself to supporting activities across the county, not least as a Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire and as Chair and Deputy Chair of The Stafford Railway Building Society.
He said: “I am humbled and privileged to receive such an award, the more so as it coincides with the Country's celebrations for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday. My involvement with Staffordshire University is based on two fundamentals. Firstly, that higher education should be accessible for everyone and secondly to ensure that the University's academic wealth is recognised as an important contributor to the success and prosperity of the region of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.”
“I look forward to continuing to work with and support future generations of students as I take great pride in my involvement with Staffordshire University."
Commenting on the announcement, Staffordshire University Vice-Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes said: “This honour is well deserved as David is tireless in his commitment to Higher Education and the University's vision to transform the lives of individuals and communities we serve.
“He is also passionate about the critical role the University has in contributing to the area. We welcome David’s continued challenge and leadership as Chair of the University's Board of Governors as we work to make Staffordshire 'the connected university'.”
