Clearing student scouted by global company

“The tutors that I spoke to on the phone were brilliant because I was panicking at that point thinking I wasn't going to get into University. They were calm and I felt so much better when I came off the phone.”

Stacey Hutchinson, BSc (Hons) Environment and Sustainability

Stacey didn't get the A-Levels results she had hoped for but after coming to Staffordshire University through Clearing she has been headhunted by a global company.

“My original plan was to go into teaching but my results weren't the best in the world so I decided to step outside of the box.” explained Staffordshire University graduate Stacey Hutchinson, from Codsall, Wolverhampton.

Stacey decided to follow another of her interests and having attended an Environment summer school chose BSc (Hons) Environment and Sustainability.

“The tutors that I spoke to on the phone were brilliant because I was panicking at that point thinking I wasn't going to get into University. They were calm and I felt so much better when I came off the phone.”

Stacey embraced being in Stoke-on-Trent and for her final year project conducted an environmental audit at Britannia Stadium, the home of Stoke City Football Club.

After receiving top marks for the project Stacey's tutor ancouraged her to present the study at the University's student exhibition GradEX, where she caught the attention of one of the judges.

Judge and Staffordshire University graduate Matthew Brookes was so impressed by Stacey's work that he invited her to apply for a job with global chemicals company LANXESS Ltd.

Stacey attended the interview and got a call back on the same day to say she had got the job as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator.

“Life has a funny habit of being like a rollercoaster.” said Stacey, who advises other people who haven't got the A-Level grades they wanted not to panic.

“Stick to a strong point or a particular favourite subject if your results don’t go your way and eventually everything will fall into place.”

“I'm really sad that my time here at Staffs is over but I've got a job and am ready to take flight.”
