Daniel to inspire new generation with degree experience

“I’d eventually like to do fashion and interiors – more high end stuff. I’m going into teaching in September for some work experience. I’d also like to inspire a younger generation and to tell them you can do anything you want to do if you keep focused.”

Daniel Beckford, BA(Hons) Surface Pattern Design

Daniel Beckford, 23, feels his experience on Staffordshire University’s BA (Hons) Surface Pattern Design course has opened new doors for him.

The married father of one from Wolverhampton had previously studied Art at Stafford College but was inspired when Surface Pattern Design senior lecturer Mike Whitehead visited the college to talk about the degree course.

Daniel said: “I’ve always been doing fine art and was interested in taking that through to other products.”

For his final year show, Daniel worked on an array of bow ties and rugs, showcasing both his talent for design and diversity of product.

Daniel, also wowed judges at greeting card company Paper Rose with his designs for a Father’s Day card, which are to be produced for sale in supermarkets and which have earned Daniel valuable placement experience in the Paper Rose design studio.

Daniel added: “I’d eventually like to do fashion and interiors – more high end stuff. I’m going into teaching in September for some work experience. I’d also like to inspire a younger generation and to tell them you can do anything you want to do if you keep focused.”

Daniel, took a gap year during his degree studies. He said: “I did care work and it really opened my eyes and was an experience I really enjoyed. Then I came back stronger and more determined and I’ve enjoyed my course through to the end.”

Daniel’s final year work is on display this week as part of Show and Tell 2013, the annual art and design degree show , which takes place at Staffordshire University’s Stoke campus until Saturday June 15.
