The student-led show, taking place at the Union’s Leek Road campus nightclub, LRV, on Thursday 13th March, will showcase a diverse mix of styles, cultures and traditional dress, along with the latest Spring/Summer collections from high street favourites Burton New Look and Peacocks.
Challenging stereotypes and welcoming diversity in an exciting and undoubtedly memorable amalgamation of cultural music, style and visual effects are central to the event which aims to celebrate the unique and diverse nature of the student community within Staffordshire University and the area as a whole. The show will feature not only high street looks but cultural dress from various countries around the world from which the University welcomes students, as well as a retro section, formal dress and more.
A community event
The student-led event has received great support and involvement from the local community; not only with the support of high street retailers, but from Stoke-based Dance Studio, Dance Loft - who will be providing a series of powerful dance performances on the night, hair salon Hot Heads and Stoke-on-Trent College’s make up and beauty students who will be getting the models’ hair and make-up ready for the catwalk.
All proceeds to charity
Now in its second year, the 2008 show hopes to build on the enormous success of last year’s event which raised more than £800 for local cancer charity Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
This year’s event will also benefit local charity, this time with proceeds going to The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust which provides much needed services and support for children with terminal illness and their families.
Tickets for the show are priced at just £3 – with all proceeds to charity – and are available in the Students’ Union shops on College Road and Leek Road campuses, on the Students’ union website and on the door on the night of the event. Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm start.
