First class performance from former TV star Anthony

"If there's something that you want just go for it - everything is achievable. I left school with no qualifications and I'm standing here today with a first class law degree."

Anthony Miller, LLB Law

Former Irish TV presenter Anthony left school with no qualifications but after hard work and dedication he has become one the UK's top law graduates.

29-year-old Anthony Miller, from Northern Ireland, had a successful career as a TV wedding planner but a family tragedy prompted him to switch the cameras for the courtroom and apply to study LLB Law at Staffordshire University.

He explained: “I've always had a hankering, there was always something saying that all of my boxes weren’t quite ticked yet. Then I experienced a family tragedy, I lost my nephew to cancer when he was only four.”

“It makes you think. You start to look at your life and the things that aren't in it and realise that life is too short.”

Although the initial move from showbiz to academia was daunting, Anthony soon settled in at university and found that skills gained from his previous career came in handy on the course.

“Law and media really do go hand in hand. Going into the courtroom every day is just another type of performance. Interviewing clients is just like interviewing someone for a newspaper or a magazine or even a television show.”

Anthony got stuck into his studies and, although he had convinced himself that he would have to re-sit his exams, got top marks graduating with a first class honours degree.

Anthony will return to Staffordshire University in September to do the LLM Legal Practice degree and eventually hopes to go into commercial law.

“There will never be the right day to make a big decision in your life. There always be a reason not to but life really is too short.” he advised.

“If there's something that you want just go for it - everything is achievable. I left school with no qualifications and I'm standing here today with a first class law degree. You can do it, just go for it!”
