Football's first lady talks to business community at Staffs Uni

THE FIRST lady of football and one of the most powerful business women in the UK is to give a talk at Staffordshire University.

Karren Brady, the former Managing Director of Birmingham City Football Club, will be speaking to an audience of business men and women at the University’s Talking Business – Staying ahead of the game event.

The event will also see workshops led by representatives from large public and private sector organisations, including: Alstom, Veolia, Network Rail, the RAF, Britvic plc and Johnson Tile, among others.

Cathy Gilbert, Director of Sales and Student Recruitment at Staffordshire University, said: “Businesses are important to Staffordshire University. We have helped and continue to help companies of all sizes to develop and grow. We have a great deal to offer, as our previous and current partnerships have proved, and events such as Talking Business are a great way of building on these partnerships as well as generating new ones.”

Guest speaker at Talking Business, Karren Brady currently stars alongside Lord Alan Sugar on hit TV show The Apprentice, after making her name in football, turning around the fortunes of Birmingham City Football Club.

She is now Vice-Chairman of West Ham United FC and has been appointed to various boards: Business Board Member of Scope, Ambassador for Birmingham Women’s Aid, Board Director for Mothercare PLC, Channel 4 Television and Sport England and currently non-Executive Director of Arcadia.

As well as hearing from Karren at the Talking Business event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about how Staffordshire University works with the business community, as well as talk to other senior businessmen and women.

Talking Business takes place on Thursday, March 3, at the Leek Road campus, Stoke-on-Trent, and will be opened by Staffordshire University’s Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Michael Gunn.
