“New Designers is very exciting because you get lots of people from industry coming down and looking at your work. It’s also interesting to see what other unis have been doing as well.”
Jack Bradley, BA (Hons) Product Design
Graduate Jack's innovative backpack design has landed him a paid placement working with top global brands.
Jack Bradley, 21 from Twickenham, chose to study BA (Hons) Product Design at Staffordshire University because of its hands on approach and industry expertise.
“It's a small course size so you can meet with lecturers quite a bit and get a lot of one-on-one support which is nice.” He explained.
“I've found it really enjoyable. It's been challenging at times but overall I've enjoyed it.”
Students on the course work on live industry projects and visit consultancies in London and New York, providing valuable insight to design practice worldwide.
There is also the opportunity to enter work into the New Designers show in London - the UK's biggest exhibition for emerging design talent.
Jack said: “New Designers is very exciting because you get lots of people from industry coming down and looking at your work. It's also interesting to see what other unis have been doing as well.”
Jack entered his final year project, a unique backpack for travellers designed to hang from bunkbeds, which caught the eye of a designer from outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturer Berghaus.
Jack has received the Pentland Brands award and was invited to complete a two-month paid placement working with designers at the company which manages Berghaus and other major brands including Speedo Canterbury and Lacoste.
“Going to shows like that is a great opportunity and I'm very glad that the uni provides the chance for us to do that.” commented Jack.
“Hopefully the placement might lead onto a job in design. It's a great opportunity and I'm very happy to have my work recognised!”
