Two students who fell in love at University after renewing a friendship of 20 years, will have cause for a double celebration as they both become graduates while making plans to marry in October.
Tracey Knight, 36, and Matthew Plummer, 35, met while at school in 1988. Despite a long absence their paths crossed once again in 2004 and it didn’t take them long to fall in love while reminiscing about the past.
Tracey works as the Stafford Senior Early Years practitioner at the University’s nursery and decided to start a BA(Hons) in Early Childhood Studies so she could further her qualifications in the area she worked in.
At the same time, Matthew, a qualified Electrician, had enrolled onto a BSc in Forensic Computing, and in between studying and sweeping Tracey off her feet, he managed to become initiated into fatherhood, deal with several family issues and completed the London Marathon in aid of leukaemia research as part of the Banana Army.
He said: “I have been around computers for a long time and have witnessed the progress from the 80’s to the present day. Although it is difficult to break into the industry, I thought I would give it a good shot and try to make a success of it.”
“Now I have graduated I would like to set up on my own and will definitely keep in touch with the Uni. I really enjoyed the course and it was a great time – I got so much out of it, including a wife!”
Tracey added: “I have worked at the Uni for 17 years now so I really wanted to further my professional development in what I do best and carried on working while doing my degree. I met Matt, had a baby and kept going with all my coursework, so I am really proud to be graduating and I am thankful to my family and the University for their support.”
“I am going to carry on working at the University and hope to do my Masters in the future, though I will need funding and more support from the University to be able to do that!”
