Perton celebrates new 'Academy' status with balloons

“As an 'outstanding' school, Perton Primary Academy will add value to the work that we do to improve life chances for young people in Staffordshire."

Keith Hollins, Chief Executive Officer, Staffordshire Universities Trust

Perton Primary Academy celebrated its launch last week with a balloon launch and a visit from local MP Gavin Williamson.

Perton Sandown First School, graded as 'outstanding' by Ofsted, converted to Perton Primary Academy in September – the latest school to join Staffordshire University Academies Trust.

Parents were invited to join in the celebrations as pupils performed a piece they had learned on steel drums and before 260 blue and yellow balloons were released into the skies above the school.

Academy Principal, Elizabeth Threlkeld said: “We are proud of our great history at Sandown and we are excited about its future as Perton Primary Academy.

“We are thrilled to join the Staffordshire University Academies Trust and are looking forward to developing our school so that we can continue to offer outstanding primary education to our local community.”

Staffordshire University Academies Trust's Chief Executive Officer, Keith Hollins said: “As an 'outstanding' school, Perton Primary Academy will add value to the work that we do to improve life chances for young people in Staffordshire.

“2016 has been an outstanding year for SUAT and there has been record examination performance in all our academies. All our academies have all improved to meet or exceed the national targets in most measures of performance. These results are the result of the hard work of the staff and pupils and the support of all of our families and their communities.”

Perton Primary Academy is going from strength to strength, having increased its intake this year from 45 pupils to 60 pupils. The Academy includes a pre-school class, on-site nursery and out of school club.

• Staffordshire University Academies Trust (SUAT) is sponsored by Staffordshire University and comprises Staffordshire University Academy, John Wheeldon Primary School Academy, Moorgate Primary Academy and Perton Primary Academy.  Other schools are due to join the Trust later in the year.

• Staffordshire University's School of Education has been rated as an 'Outstanding' provider of teacher training for schools by Ofsted since 2001.
