Public invited to help shape City of Culture

“Ultimately, this will help to ensure that as many community members as possible experience the benefits of the Stoke-on-Trent City of Culture 2021 bid.”

Rachel Pemberton, Community Engagement Researcher

People in Stoke-on-Trent are being encouraged to help shape the City of Culture programme.

Staffordshire University researchers Nic Gratton and Rachel Pemberton set up the SoTogether Community Advisory Network (CAN) to engage with the public and evaluate the social impact of Stoke-on-Trent's bid to become City of Culture 2021.

CAN hosts monthly community group meetings that offer people who live, work or study in Stoke-on-Trent the chance to contribute their thoughts and ideas surrounding the City of Culture.

“It provides an opportunity for members to shape and influence aspects of the City of Culture bid and overall programme.” Rachel explained.

“Ultimately, the SoTogether Community Advisory Network will help to ensure that as many community members as possible experience the benefits of the Stoke-on-Trent City of Culture 2021 bid.”

A meeting will take place on Wednesday 11 October 2017 for the public to meet artist Helen Marshall who is leading on the 'Face of Stoke-on-Trent' photography project – a giant photo mosaic to back the bid.

It takes place at the Regent Theatre from 10.30am - 12.30pm and will be an opportunity for community members to hear about the full details of the project, find out about how they can get involved and also to offer Helen feedback about the project.

Rachel added: “You can book on via our Eventbrite page or email us directly to confirm attendance. We would love to see lots of new faces and hear your thoughts!”
