Staffordshire University has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development category in the Times Higher Education Awards 2016.

This award seeks to recognise and reward imaginative schemes that build leadership confidence and capability at every level of an organisation.

The nomination acknowledges Staffordshire University's Leading for Success Programme which was established to invest and develop aspiring leaders throughout every area of the University.

Drawing upon contemporary research and thinking, the innovative blended learning approach to the programme includes a range of experiential learning experiences, executive coaching, psychometric testing and peer support.

126 members of staff have undertaken the programme which has led to noticeable change and improvement. 360 Measurement Scores, looking at employees' work-related behaviour and performance, showed an 80% improvement when participants retook the survey upon completing the course.

Ian Blachford, Executive Director of Corporate Services, said: “Our passion is to create leaders who have knowledge, skills, confidence, tenacity, creativity and social capital to effectively lead and manage in the global, turbulent, challenging environment of Higher Education.

“With our new city campus opening this month after a £40m investment it is vital that we have people across the University to lead in this exciting new chapter.

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award and to be recognised for our investment in the future of our staff and the University.”

Winners of The Times Higher Education Awards 2016 will be announced on 24 November at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
