Tourism degree is just the ticket

"The support you get from lecturers is unbelievable. Right from day one they introduce themselves and make you feel so welcome and comfortable."

Grace McPherson, BA (Hons) Tourism Management

A tourism graduate secured a ticket to success at university and received a job offer just two hours after getting her degree results.

Grace McPherson, 22 from Lightwood, didn’t need to travel far to find her ideal course and studied BA (Hons) Tourism Management at Staffordshire University.

She said: “I've loved every moment from year one until now. The support you get from lecturers is unbelievable. Right from day one they introduce themselves and make you feel so welcome and comfortable.”

The course offers a range of hands-on experience and Grace had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona on a course trip and work at the Stone and Food Drink Festival.

At the festival, she worked with fellow students to carry out visitor surveys and compile a report about the event's performance.

“We went to the Stone and Food Drink Festival to get experience that we wouldn't always get in the classroom.” She explained.

“The data that we gathered can be used by the organisers to help improve the event in future – so it everyone benefits.”

Grace also put her tourism skills into practice outside of lectures by showing her course mates the sights of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

“It was nice for me to explain what I know and show them around the city. I'm very proud of where I come from so to show that to my peers was really lovely."

Having achieved a first-class degree, Grace secured a job at a travel agents in Stone the same day she received her results.

She added: “As soon as I got my results I got offered a job straight away! All my life I've wanted to work at a travel agents so I'm really happy.”
