VC celebrates international hat-trick

Staffordshire University Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Gunn completed a hat-trick of overseas graduation ceremonies this week.

Over the last three weeks, Professor Gunn has travelled to Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka to congratulate hundred of graduates on achieving their Staffordshire University degrees.

In the same period, Executive Pro Vice-Chancellor Rosy Crehan has travelled to City University of Hong Kong to congratulate more than 120 students who graduated with degrees in Computing Science, Business Information Technology and Information Systems.

"These partnerships enable more students to engage with a Staffordshire University award than would otherwise be possible, and our profile and reputation are raised internationally as a result. Partnerships are a key to developing our University and we used these opportunities to discuss growth possibilities..."

Having just returned from APIIT Sri Lanka where a further 200 students graduated, Professor Gunn said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the graduations. The students were clearly excited at what they had achieved; parents, family and friends were delighted for them and the staff of the institutions were present in full support of their students.

“These partnerships enable more students to engage with a Staffordshire University award than would otherwise be possible, and our profile and reputation are raised internationally as a result.”

Rosy, who presided over the ceremonies in Hong Kong, added: “It was honour and a privilege to be playing a part in the ceremonies and to get to meet and congratulate graduates who make up Staffordshire University’s global community.”

The award ceremonies took place at DISTED College, Penang, Malaysia; Shelton College International, Singapore; City University of Hong Kong and APIIT Sri Lanka.
