“What is important to us is to produce students who have great ideas and who can realise them to the highest quality - real entrepreneurial skills they can bring to market.
John Bradburn, Senior Lecturer in Entertainment Technology at Staffordshire University
A graduate filmmaker is celebrating his biggest success to date after securing a gig filming a live concert at Wembley Arena.
Jack Lilley, 24, from Bath, who started his own production company Sea Legs in the final year of his BSc Film Production Technology degree, will lead the production of Frank Turner's live show on April 13.
He said: “I am both nervous and excited. With all live concerts you obviously only get that one shot at getting it right, you can’t call cut and start over. It’s very intense but rewarding at the same time.
“I could not have pictured myself here before but it is an incredible feeling when I think about it.”
Since graduating in 2009 Jack's highlights in the music industry include promotional work for the Mercury Prize Awards and an intimate set with Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro for Bulmers.
“There are opportunities out there but you need a bit of tenacity to get them. A speculative phone call led me from filming in Nottingham at Rock City, to Shepard’s Bush and now Wembley Arena.
“The network of fellow graduates from Staffordshire University in the industry has been vital, whether the need is for a lens or a camera operator it’s been a fantastic help to call on people from my time at Stafford.”
John Bradburn, Senior Lecturer in Entertainment Technology and Jack’s final year project tutor said: “What is important to us is to produce students who not only have great ideas but real entrepreneurial skills so they can realise these ideas in the market and to the highest quality.
“Six months out of University Jack had a live music DVD distributed worldwide which is an amazing achievement. It is wonderful that he has now come back to us to ask if our students would like to work on his shoot at Wembley.”
