“We really want it to be something that any students can be a part of and everyone will be proud of.”
Sophie Piedallu, BSc(Hons) Film Production Technology, Staffordshire University
Film students from Staffordshire University have launched their own online TV channel to help boost their skills and career prospects.
Staffs TV was founded by students Matt Brading and Sophie Piedallu to maximise the use of the University’s industry standard Television Centre in Stafford.
Having also worked on documentaries for Autosport International 2013, Red Bull Studios, and a pilot show for Sky Sports, Staffs TV is calling for students with an interest in film or television to come and join the production team.
Sophie Piedallu, who is in the final year of her BSc(Hons) degree in Film Production Technology, said: “Our aim is to establish Staffs TV as a student channel that reaches high technical standards and delivers relevant, educational and entertaining content for viewers.
“We started broadcasting our weekly show called What’sNext which covers film, music and games every Wednesday and we continue to build on our output week by week.
“We really want it to be something that any students can be a part of and everyone will be proud of,” she added.
Each member of the team who joins Staffs TV is mentored and taught how to use equipment and are able to undertake the full spectrum of roles they can expect to find in the industry including camera operation, scriptwriting, producing and presenting.
Staffs TV Production Manager, Jonathon Gale, said: “Staffs TV has brought many exciting challenges and opportunities for me personally, and I feel that my experiences organising the shows will only benefit my career in the long run.”
