As a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health with a clinical background in Forensic Psychiatry and Diversion at the Point of Arrest services, I have worked clinically within several mental health services across a variety of clinical Trusts, performing the roles of Charge Nurse, Ward Manager and Sector Co-ordinator. I completed my BSc and MA in Health whilst working within my clinical roles.
Whilst working in my last clinical role I was asked to deliver some “teaching sessions” for a local university, which fuelled my interest in a career in teaching and I was fortunate enough to achieve this in 2005.
My teaching experience includes involvement in generic mental health modules within undergraduate nursing programmes. I have also been the Course Leader for the CPD programmes in Psychological Interventions and also Prison/Forensic Pathways. I am currently the module lead for the BSc Part One Mental Health Practice module.
I have recently developed the new MSc Mental Health Nursing Practice award as Course Lead and will be the module lead for the RPL/Preparation module, Mental Health Nursing Practice 4,5,6 and the Physical and Mental Health Assessment, Pathophysiology and Preparation for Prescribing.
As Couse Lead I am excited about the new MSc award and looking forward to developing this further with our clinical partners. I have been able to bring in a number of clinical experts from Forensic, Addiction, Community and Prison service to help deliver the award.
