Lecturer

School of Justice, Security and Sustainability

I joined the Institute in April 2021 following 30 years of policing and now have the pleasure of teaching the Level 4 and 5 of the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA). I shall also support the delivery of the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP), supporting new recruits from Staffordshire Police, Warwickshire Police, West Mercia Police and West Midlands Police.

Before joining the University, I worked for West Midlands Police for 19 years and prior to that completed 11 years with Bedfordshire Police which was my hometown. I retired in August 2020 as a Chief Inspector responsible for neighbourhood Policing across one half of Birmingham. Prior to that, I have been the neighbourhood Inspector for Perry Barr constituency covering Handsworth and Lozells. This was a hugely diverse, challenging and rewarding area to work. I spent half of my police service in the role of sergeant and performing various roles including response policing, neighbourhood, criminal investigation department lead investigating murders, robberies, rapes, and serious assault. I also enjoyed my time as a custody sergeant and offender manager supervisor.

I have six children with my daughter currently doing her A levels and her five brothers following suit in the future.

In 2020 I completed an MA in Leadership and Management within Policing. I am active in the community and am a Police cadet commander leading a group of cadets in Birmingham. I have recently completed my bicycle instructor’s course and will be delivering occasional training at local schools.
