Prior to moving into academia, I was an Advanced Social Work Practitioner in a community team. This was a broad role which involved supervising staff, practice teaching, and undertaking Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments. In autumn 2017 I joined the North West Midlands Social Work Teaching Partnership on a secondment, managing a project delivering training and development opportunities to experienced social workers. The role was based at Staffordshire University and led to my first teaching post.
Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I am also involved in research. Most recently I have been researching the experiences of older people when their care is transferred between the hospital and community services. I am also involved in a new piece of research around practitioners’ experiences of the legislative changes brought in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
