Jane Sawyers

Associate Professor

School of Justice, Security and Sustainability

I am a former Police Officer having served in both uniform and plain clothes in a wide variety of roles. I retired in June 2017 as the Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police.

During my career I gained experience in operational and strategic firearms command, public order policing and counter terrorism. I spent a number of years as an Investigator and as head of the Professional Standards department, responsible for investigating police misconduct and corruption. I was the national LGBT+ lead for policing for three years.

I hold a number of board positions, including at the YMCA North Staffordshire and the Sports Ground Safety Authority.

My masters dissertation was about hate crime and explored the relationship between the adherence to policy by officers investigating hate crime and the satisfaction of victims.
