After leaving University, John worked at British Aerospace on Airbus aircraft design for 4 years, then at Michelin in various roles over 10 years. Later, he then led a Manufacturing Support Group at CERAM, offering Industrial Engineering services for SMEs up to global players such as IKEA where John worked on manufacturing, logistic projects around the world. In 2008, he joined Wardell Armstrong and lead the Energy and Carbon team, working on renewable energy, waste to energy projects and UNFCCC CDM projects.

From 2012 to 2017, he co-owned a local engineering company, whilst being a private-sector board member on the Stoke and Staffordshire LEP - being part of the team winning the funding for our regional energy projects such as SEND at Keele Uni and the Stoke DHN. Since 2017, John works as an expert consultant on Carbon Decarbonisation strategies for business and for UK Regions.

Overseas, John is involved in decarbonisation and Waste Management projects in the Middle East, CARDA and Far East regions. He also works on technology Innovation projects and methods with companies as a sub-contractor - and is also a shareholder in his own company, Strimplates, developing CCS technology. Over the last 3 years, he has worked on developing the Decarbonisation Strategies for the Southeast Tri-LEP region, Humberside, the North West, a range of Local Authorities, the Steel sector in the Far East and Waste Management projects in the UAE. Development and deployments in Innovation technology and processes have been key to this.
