My career in animation began in the early 1990’s when I co-founded Liverpool based Animation Company Jackdaw Media. My principle role within that organisation was to work as a Producer. Our client portfolio included Granada Television, Channel Four, the British Film Institute and the Arts Council. I left in 1997 to pursue my own projects and a fractional post as a lecturer in animation. I have worked as an external examiner for animation in The University of Wolverhampton and University Wales College Newport. My animation research activities have included participation in The Society of Animation Studies conferences presenting papers on the subject of UK Animation in San Francisco, Trondheim and Brisbane. In 2002 I was invited by the British Council to present a lecture tour on the subject of British Animation and toured four cities including Mumbai and Delhi. Between 2002 - 2005 I exhibited animation and optical devices as part of “The Mares Tale” touring exhibition to thirteen venues and galleries in the U.K. In recent years I have taken up my sketchbooks and life drawing again - this has resulted in the establishment of a cross disciplinary design project creating limited edition relief prints and applied art in 2010 “laurawestonart.com” I am particularly concerned with assisting graduates with practical advice relating to transition from academic study to work in the creative industries. My lecturing role within the School of Arts Media and Design includes working with students participating within BA Animation, Stop motion & Puppet making , 3DCA and VFX. I am module manager for level three Futures and External Brief 15 credit modules and team teach across levels 1, 2.
