I am a part-time lecturer in Counselling and CBT at Staffordshire University, and Counsellor, CBT Therapist and Clinical Supervisor in my established private practice. My professional experience includes working as a counsellor for the NHS, Douglas Macmillan Hospice and IMPACT & Aquarius alcohol agencies including counselling within the probation service. I have worked as a CBT Therapist and Clinical Supervisor for the NHS and as a CBT Therapist at Combat Stress (military veteran’s mental health charity) specialising in providing treatment for military veterans’ mental health, including inpatient NHS-Commissioned intensive treatment programmes for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I support my professional and personal growth by regularly attending and delivering CPD activities in the field of psychological therapy and practicing self-care through mindfulness practices, spending time in nature and indulging in my love of watching and playing tennis.

Research interests

My Masters research was a qualitative study of women’s experiences of never becoming a mother, using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Use of these qualitative experiences of minority groups to inform therapeutic practice, continues to be an area of research interest for me. From a CBT perspective, my research interests lie in the application of Trauma-Focussed CBT for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including the use of virtual reality technology and the collaborative relationship in CBT.

I currently teach on the Professional/Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I provide some guest teaching in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy on the University Certificate in Counselling.
