About Me

I studied English at the University of Cambridge before deciding to pursue a career in Law.  After completing my Graduate Diploma in Law at Staffordshire University (with Distinction)  I went to the Inns of Court School of Law in London, to undertake the vocational stage of training.  I was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1994 and practised as a Barrister specialising in Family and Criminal Law; I studied my LLM in Family Law here at Staffordshire part-time, whilst in practice.  I also have professional experience of providing advocacy services to children and young people in local authority care, hospitals and Young Offender Institutions.  I am a qualified and experienced teacher in both maintained schools and the Higher Education sector, and my doctoral research is in international student experience and pedagogical responses to internationalisation.   My main teaching interests are in Criminal Practice and Evidence.
