About Me

I qualified as a Registered Nurse through Staffordshire University in 2000. I worked for 15 years as a Theatre Scrub Practitioner and Clinical Standards Facilitator in the Operating Theatres at an acute NHS Trust in the West Midlands, taking an active role in the support and development of Operating Department Practice students. Following my role as a vocational assessor, I developed my interests in education by completing my further education teaching certificate in 2013, during which I was a guest lecturer on the ODP Award. I began a part-time lecturing role with Staffordshire University in 2013, working as Module lead for the surgical modules on the Dip (HE) Operating Department Practice award. I took the Course Lead role in 2016, facilitating the development and validation of the BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice. I continue to facilitate the development of clinical and technical skills by using my clinical experiences and knowledge to support students in their skills sessions. I am the module leader for Basic Counselling Skills on the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care course. I have also been actively involved in the development of the ODP Apprenticeship standard.
