About Me

I graduated from Cambridge University in 1993 having completed my first degree in Social Anthropology. I then went on the study part-time for a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology with the Open University while working in my first Marketing role as Marketing and Public Relations Officer for Birmingham City University (formerly the University of Central England). Whilst in this role I also gained my professional Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualifications and took over marketing responsibilities for the Business School. I then chose to change the focus of my career and pursue my passion for motorsport - going to work at Silverstone Circuit as Advertising and Promotions Officer. My job was primarily to manage the advertising campaigns for the race events and producing the associated publications such as race day programmes. I worked on two British Grand Prix during the time I was there and regularly rubbed shoulders with the F1 drivers at test days! From Silverstone I moved to work for the McLaren Formula One team as Editor of their in-house magazine, Racing Line, whilst also co-ordinating website content and sometimes escaping to look after the drivers at test days. Kimi Raikkonen joined McLaren just before I left and I remember meeting him and being very impressed with how cool he was – not nicknamed the ‘Ice Man’ for nothing these days. I left the glamour of F1 (in Woking!) and decided to move back up to the Midlands and went to work for ITV Central in Birmingham where I progressed to be Head of Regional Affairs covering all PR, marketing and events activity for the Central region. The high point of my TV career was finally getting to meet Duran Duran!  A childhood ambition realised….

I began my Higher Education teaching career in 2010 working as an Associate Lecturer for Oxford Brookes University and an External Supervisor at Birmingham University.  I was appointed Lecturer in Marketing and Events at Staffordshire University in May 2012.

I am Chair of the Royal Television Society in the Midlands Region and have been for the past four years.
