Job Title and Responsibilities

I graduated from Sheffield University where I studied industrial ceramics. I turned down a Science Research Council grant to study for a PhD in nuclear ceramics with the Atomic Energy Authority, in order to teach PE. Having begun a career teaching in a secondary school, I took on a series of leadership roles in middle and primary schools, until I became headteacher of Cooper Perry Primary School near Stafford. In recent years I have been involved in consultancy work in relation to Design for Learning, Personalising Learning and Developing International Links, working with schools and local education authorities from all over England. I have also worked for Staffordshire LA on a part time basis as a District Inspector and as a Primary Strategy Consultant Leader and I am a qualified Ofsted inspector. Other consultancy experience has involved service reviews, and self-review processes including work as an international critical friend to schools in Norway, Poland and Holland. Most recently, in 2007, I was seconded to the SSAT Primary Team as Professional Development and Innovation Coordinator.
In April 2003 I took part as a crew volunteer in The Round Britain Challenge – a non-stop 2000 mile race in 72’ yachts around the British Isles raising money for local hospices. Other fund-raising activities include running the London Marathon and abseiling and sky-diving to raise funds for Guide Dogs. For a number of summers I worked in the Masindi District of Uganda supporting local primary schools and delivering courses for teachers and headteachers in school development and improvement.
