On Wednesday 27 January 2021, Staffordshire University set up the COVID-19 Response Fund to help students who have been impacted by the ongoing pandemic.

The fund has already awarded more than 3,000 grants during previous rounds of funding, giving students access to cash grants for a wide variety of assistance. 

The fund will reopen at 11am on Monday, 17 May with an application deadline of 11am on Monday 24 May.

The COVID-19 Response Fund is open to all current Staffordshire University students, including international, distance learning and postgraduate students as well as those students studying at one of our partner colleges.

To allow us to help as many students as possible if you have already received a grant from the fund, then you cannot apply during this new round.

However, f you are experiencing an immediate financial crisis, or if you need to access the FoodHub, please contact the Students’ Union Advice Team who can arrange to put urgent support in place. You can speak to a member of the Advice Team on 01782 294629 or via email to studentadvice@staffs.ac.uk from Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm. If you are experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties, you can also apply to our Student Success (Support) Fund for additional support.

What can I apply for? 

You will be able to access additional funding for a wide variety of assistance, including:

    • Household bills (gas, water, electric);
    • Food;
    • Rent/rent arrears;
    • Accommodation fee deposit;
    • Broadband/WIFI data allowance;

Who can apply?

The COVID-19 Response Fund is open to all current Staffordshire University students.

How do I apply?

You can apply by using the button below. Applying is quick and easy and should take no more than five minutes. All you need is your student number and course details. If you are in receipt of a maintenance loan from Student Finance please also include your student support number. If you are not sure what this number is you can find it on your student card. It is a 13 digit number and will look something like, SFDUXXXXXX2XE. If you cannot see it on your student card you can also find it on the second page of your entitlement letter from Student Finance.

You will also be asked to provide your bank details so we can make payment to you if your application is approved. Please make sure to check your bank details thoroughly before submitting your application. 

What do I need to include in my personal statement?

You will need to let us know why you require support and how this will benefit your studies. Please include details of any specific items you require support for. For example, you might say you are applying for the Digital Learning Grant to buy a pair of noise cancelling headphones as you don’t have a quiet space to work from home.

When will I find out if my application has been successful?

Applicants will be contacted after the closing date to confirm grant funding or other support. If your application for grant funding is not successful we will continue to work hard to make sure other support is available to you, such as laptop loans, free printing, equipment loans, access to software etc.

How will I be paid?

If your application is successful you will be paid by BACS straight into your nominated bank account. You can expect to receive payment within two weeks of being told your application has been successful.  

How much will I be awarded?

We aim to support as many students as possible. As the fund has limited resources we may not be able to meet all the costs you might apply for. Following the application deadline, the grants team will assess each application. If you are awarded a payment we will email you with details of how much you have been awarded.

Do I have to repay any payment I receive from the COVID-19 Response Fund?

No, you will not be asked to repay any payment you receive from the COVID-19 Response Fund. We might contact you later this year to see how the COVID-19 Response Fund supported you with your studies.
