The Student Hub

The Student Hub is home to a wide range of student support facilities that have previously been located across our Stoke-on-Trent campus.

The Student Hub is a place where students can connect, relax and engage. There is plenty of space to meet up with friends, and course mates.  The Student Hub is also home to our Information, Support and Wellbeing services.

At the Student Hub, you'll be able to access the Student Information Team, Student and Wellbeing Support and the Careers and Personal Development Team. This ensures that our students have access to all the University’s student support services in one place. The teams are dedicated to providing information and support and can consult students on thesis submissions, visa checks, ID cards, CVs, careers advice and much more. Our expert teams can also provide counselling, wellbeing support and expert academic guidance.

Seeing an advisor

Drop-ins for the following services will operate between 10am - 3pm Monday - Friday in the Student Hub

  • Student guidance advisors
  • Mental wellbeing advisors
  • Disability co-ordinators
  • Careers and personal development related queries will be dealt with by a front-line careers specialist.

Sessions run at core times every day where we offer 15-20 minute meetings to address urgent and pressing concerns.

Sometimes it may be necessary to get help or seek advice quickly. If you are concerned about your studies, welfare or wellbeing, or any other aspect of student life you can attend our drop-in sessions and have a brief meeting with an Advisor to help you manage your issue. It may be that in this session we make you a longer appointment for later in the week and/or refer you to other sources of help.

How drop-ins work

A Drop-In offers a shorter meeting with a Student Advisor. These are not bookable in advance. Come in, and someone will see you as soon as they can, however, please be prepared to wait.

We usually run our Drop-in Sessions from 10am-3pm, but this may vary on a day-to-day basis. Come in or call for more information.

A Student Advisor will see you for 15-20 mins, and they will aim to address your immediate needs and concerns.

If a shorter session may not address all your needs, this can be followed up with a further appointment, as necessary.

Appointments provide space for you to get support with any aspect of your life. Appointments are always held in private rooms. There is no need for you to disclose private information in the public space.

What to expect

Appointments with Student Advisors usually last up to 45 minutes. They normally need to be booked in advance, but can often be made on the day.

Our Advisors are trained to support students with a range of both emotional and practical matters.

The kinds of things students come to see Student Advisors about include: feeling homesick, having difficulties settling in, feeling things aren’t going the way you’d expected, housing problems, feeling anxious about seminars, concerns about study skills, money worries, health concerns, and many other situations that may be impacting on your studies. There might be a specific issue you want advice on, or perhaps you are feeling conflicted and there is something you’d like to talk over.

An appointment with an Advisor can also provide you with academic guidance and information and assistance with University processes, such as taking time out of your studies (Intermitting).

Remember, we are here to offer advice and guidance on issues or concerns you may have throughout your time as a student at Staffordshire University.
