Overview

Public engagement describes the myriad of ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with the public. Engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit” NCCPE definition www.publicengagement.ac.uk

Through Public Engagement we can:

  • inspire, inform and educate the public, making Higher Education more accessible;

  • listen to the public's views, concerns and insights;

  • work with the public to solve problems together, drawing on each other's expertise

Our Blogs

We coordinate Staffs Fringe Festival http://blogs.staffs.ac.uk/fringe/ – the University’s annual public engagement festival and creative showcase. We support university staff, students and our community partners to celebrate the wide range of diverse talents in North Staffordshire.

The University Quarter blog holds information on all the community projects and events ran by us including; 'The Big Book Swap Picnic' in Hanley Park, 'Community Action Day' and much more.

Public Engagement Network

University staff are invited to join Staffordshire University’s Public Engagement Network #staffsengage. The Network is set up to promote peer support, share and develop good practice. Please contact Penny to join.

Social Media

Head over to our Facebook page for the University Quarter Stoke-on-Trent, and the Staffs Fringe Facebook page to keep up with the latest information on community events for students, staff and the public.

Community and University Connect

We provide support for community partners across Staffordshire - particularly organisations, community groups, schools and colleges, small business, and individual residents and community activists in the University Quarter of Stoke-on-Trent and the wider city. We will help you connect with University staff and students for research, teaching and practical work including volunteering.
