This Charter has been produced jointly by the Students’ Union and the University. It sets out the University’s commitments to you and also your responsibilities as a student. The University is committed to putting students at the heart of everything that we do and this Charter supports that aspiration. The Students’ Union and the University will review the Charter on annual basis.

Staffordshire University commitments:

  • We will deliver high-quality teaching and learning and experience for our students.
  • Your learning and teaching experience alongside opportunities to engage in educational activities (outside the classroom) means your on-campus learning will be spread over three days.
  • To aid your learning we will have on-demand, bite-sized digital learning available across all our subjects that are accessible at any time.
  • We know how important feedback is, so we will ensure timely and quality feedback to support your learning in line with our existing policies.
  • All of your modules will have up to date, appropriate and relevant resources available week to week as you progress.
  • Your Academic Mentors will tailor personalised support to guide your development during your time with us.
  • The learning outcomes on your course is our priority. This means that your calendar will look and feel different for different courses, reflecting their specific needs.
  • We have a team approach to delivering your learning, so we will make sure you will always have someone there for your timetabled sessions.

Student commitments:

  • We want all our students to engage in our extended welcome period enabling you to gain insight into your course and the broader student experience.
  • For the best learning experience, you will need to engage in all available learning opportunities and required assessments.
  • Take personal responsibility for self-learning and independent study time, it’s important to your success.
  • Students will engage with learning communities, participating in face to face, online and co-curricular activities to make the experience the best it can be.
  • Inform your academic mentors and us if you cannot access or engage with your learning and teaching activity. We will work together to get the right outcome for your success.
  • Feedback is so vital to your learning. Let us know if we are not delivering this promptly or in a way that helps you develop your understanding.
  • We understand that every course is delivered differently; talk to your Academic mentor or the Students’ Union studentvoice@staffs.ac.uk when things are not what you expected. We want to ensure you have the best experience possible.

Staffordshire University Students' Union commitments:

  • We will be an independent voice for students influencing the University in its decision making.
  • We are here for you; whatever the problem, we will represent, advise or advocate in your time of need.
  • We will create common interest communities, societies and clubs, giving you opportunities to engage and interact with like-minded people.
  • We will deliver co-curricular activities giving you the opportunity to enhance your learning experience.
  • We will deliver a diverse programme of activities across all of our social spaces, giving you a chance to connect.
  • Our campaign work will be on issues that are relevant to you, our students.
  • We will put the wellbeing of our students first, ensuring that the right interventions and support is available to prevent or respond to a crisis.
  • We will be an inclusive organisation, embracing our diverse population.
  • We put our students first. We want our students to see us as their Union, someone they recognise and trust to deliver the best for them.

  • If your circumstances change throughout the year, talk to the Student Connect Team, and we can make sure you are connected to the right person.
  • You must have the right technology and understand how to engage with your learning platforms. If you need support and guidance, you can contact the Digital Services Help Desk.
