Taking notice of the world around you is important for mental health and wellbeing because it encourages mindfulness and helps people become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. Paying attention to everyday experiences, such as spending time in nature, appreciating small moments, or reflecting on positive experiences, can reduce stress and improve mood.

Taking notice also helps individuals develop greater self-awareness, recognise what supports their wellbeing, and build resilience during difficult times. By slowing down and being present in the moment, people can gain a greater sense of calm, gratitude, and overall life satisfaction.

Small steps

  • Write down one thing you’re grateful for each day

Ideas

  • Keep a journal to reflect on your experiences
