Why we are running this survey?

Here at Staffordshire University we actively seek to create and maintain a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. We believe in providing everyone with an opportunity to fulfil their potential. Our commitment to equality, diversity, dignity, respect and fairness extends to all our community: staff, students, partners, visitors and the wider community irrespective of their background or personal characteristics.

This is the right thing to do because:

  • We want to play a positive role in developing a more inclusive society;

  • We want to attract, retain and support the best workforce; and

  • We want to attract, retain and enable students from all backgrounds to succeed.

To help us to progress this work we are currently working towards an application to Advance HE’s Race Equality Charter so that we properly understand any race discrimination and take appropriate steps to remove it.
It is really important that we hear the views of everyone at Staffs – students and staff:

  • whether you think there is anything we need to know about race equality here?

  • What you think we should do to eradicate any racial discrimination; and

  • Your ideas about how we can improve race equality for everyone.

This survey is just one of the ways you can be involved and we will be communicating regularly to keep you up to date with our race equality work and seek your views on future actions.

For more information about our involvement in the Race Equality Charter please contact Gill Grainger (Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) diversity@staffs.ac.uk

Why take part?

Your feedback is vital

We are committed to promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging for all our students and colleagues.

This survey is part of a wider piece of work looking to understand the culture of the Staffs and ensure race equality. By taking part you are adding to the knowledge of the University and helping us to identify areas for improvement, and ways to make those improvements.
The results of this survey will be included in our application, and if successful, the application and action plan will be published on our website. We hope you will see your views and ideas reflected within the application and that we are acting on the survey results.

Open text boxes

Throughout the survey there are a combination of fixed questions and answers and open text boxes. Please expand on your answers wherever possible. We want to understand your experiences at Staffs. The more information you provide us with, the more we will understand where and how we need to improve.

We are not asking for any information that will identify you.

Throughout the survey, please only answer the questions with which you are comfortable.

The information provided including anonymous equality monitoring information will be stored and collated by the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
