Printing is temporarily free

The University is in the process of rolling out a new fleet of HP printers. From 1st August 2020, until the migration is completed, Students will not be charged for printing and do not need to top up.

MyPrint Portal

Your personalised MyPrint portal can be accessed at

From here you can view a summary of your activity, transaction history, recent print jobs and jobs pending release. You can add print credit, use the Web Print feature or setup mobility print.

Printing from University PCs and Macs

Don't worry about choosing a specific printer.  If you are working on one of our computers, simply choose MyPrint to print in black & white or colour. You can then go to any printer in any of our buildings to collect your stuff.

  1. On your computer go to the File tab, then Print
  2. Choose MyPrint on, then click Print

Contactless Print Job Release

You can do a contactless job release from any of our MFDs, meaning you won't have to physically login to the device or touch it.

  1. Go to any printer
  2. Scan the QR code on the printer with your phone's camera app and follow the link that appears
  3. Log in and authenticate with your username and password
  4. Select the items you want to print, then tap Release

Print Job Release with ID Card

You can use your student ID card to sign into our MFDs and release your print jobs.

  1. Go to any printer
  2. Hold your student ID card over the card reader to sign in
  3. Swipe your card over the card reader
  4. Press Print Release on the home screen
  5. Select individual print jobs, and then Release
  6. Or to print everything, Select Print All
  7. For unwanted documents select the job and press Delete
  8. Select Log out when finished

Printing from your own laptop / device

If you are using your own laptop or mobile device, you can still use our printers.

Web Print

You can submit print jobs from your web browser using Web Print within your MyPrint portal.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to  (login with your university credentials)
  2. Choose Web Print from the left hand menu
  3. Click Submit a job
  4. Choose the relevant print queue (E.g. Black & White Double Sided)
  5. Select Print Options and Account Selection
  6. Choose the number of copies and then select Upload Documents
  7. Either drag files onto the webpage or select Upload from computer
    The following file types are allowed: Microsoft Excel xlam, xls, xlsb, xlsm, xlsx, xltm, xltx Microsoft PowerPoint pot, potm, potx, ppam, pps, ppsm, ppsx, ppt, pptm, pptx Microsoft Word doc, docm, docx, dot, dotm, dotx, rtf, txt PDF pdf Picture Files bmp, dib, gif, jfif, jif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, png, tif, tiff XPS xps
  8. Select Upload & Complete
  9. Your documents will be sent to the printer

When it is done, you will get a 'Complete' message in a green box.  Once you see this, you can collect your printing from any printer.

Email to Print

You can also submit print jobs by attaching documents to an email.

  1. Open your email client (e.g. Outlook)
  2. Attach your documents to the email
  3. Send the email to

Mobility Print

Mobility print gives you the option of permanently installing our MyPrint queue onto your device. It's a one-time install and then you can send print jobs to our print jobs from any of your apps. Mobility Print is support on Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android and Chrome OS.

NB: setup and use of the mobility print queue can only be done whilst on campus. To setup:

  1. Log into
  2. Choose BYOD - Mobile Print Queue Setup from the left hand navigation
  3. Follow the prompt to download the installer
  4. Run the downloaded mobility printer setup EXE on your machine
  5. When asked authenticate with your University username and password
  6. You will then have the MyPrint [Staffordshire University] (Mobility) Printer added to your printers

How much does it cost to print?
 A4 black and white 3p
 A4 colour  10p
 A3 black and white  6p
 A3 colour  20p


You can scan your stuff free of charge at any of the printers, which are actually multi-function devices. Hold your student ID card on the scanner to log in, then choose Scan on the screen.

Scan to Email will send a PDF of your scanned document to your University email account.


As well as printing and scanning, the multi-function devices also photocopy.

  1. Swipe your card over the card reader
  2. Press Copy on the home screen
  3. Place your documents in the feeder or glass
  4. Press options for more choices
  5. Select how many copies and press Start
  6. Select Log out when finished
