Staffs Uni is 'Midlands University of the Year'

Staffordshire University has been named the region’s top university in the annual Midlands Business Awards.

The University is a leader in higher and degree apprenticeships and a new 40m Catalyst building planned for the Stoke-on-Trent campus will cater to 6,500 apprentices, increasing economic prosperity and supporting business growth in the region. Staffordshire University is already partnering with four police forces throughout the Midlands on delivery of the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.

Building on its proud computing heritage and strengths in computer games, the University also launched Staffordshire University London Digital Institute which offers specialist degrees in Esports and Cyber Crime and training for the technological pioneers of the future.

Collecting the award, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Liz Barnes CBE, said: “Our University has made considerable progress in the last three years which is recognised by our marked improvement in all UK University League Tables.

“We’ve also achieved against our other business objectives and have been awarded a ‘Gold in the government’s Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) as well as moving to a position where we are financially sustainable.

“Being recognised as winner of Midlands University of the Year is testament to the hard work of our staff and our talented students who graduate with the skills that enable businesses in our region to grow and prosper.”

Its achievements show that the higher education sector will have a vital role in equipping the UK for the challenges of the future.”
