We've joined forces with the National Black Police Association to reflect on Stephen Lawrence's impact on the world.
In the run-up to Stephen Lawrence Day 2021, Staffordshire University's Institute of Policing has joined forces with the National Black Police Association(opens in new tab) to raise awareness of Stephen's story and the impact that it has had on our lives.
Stephen Lawrence was murdered in a racially motivated attack on 22 April 1993 at the age of 18. It took almost two decades for two of his killers to be convicted. Stephen’s death, and the mishandling of the subsequent murder investigation, sparked outrage, a public inquiry, and one of the most important moments in British criminal justice.
Stephen's mum, Baroness Lawrence OBE, is an honorary doctor of Staffordshire University and she continues to campaign for change. You can find out more about Stephen's story on the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation's(opens in new tab) website.
