The 100th annual Bike Week took place on Monday 5 June 2023 to Sunday 11 June 2023, marking 100 years of celebrating everyday cycling.
We had staff from across our schools and services, and across our campuses, taking up the challenge. From Stoke-on-Trent to London, staff were sharing photos of their commutes that ranged from canal towpaths and fields, to busy roads and city settings.
To mark the occasion, Staffordshire University challenged staff to post pictures from their cycle commutes on the Staff App or Twitter during the week. Whether they cycled all or part of their commutes, colleagues were rewarded with a catering voucher and a UK Cycling Bike Week Certificate.
Dr Paul Barratt, Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University, said: ”Blessed by good weather, it was great to see so many staff taking to two wheels for all or part of their commutes.
“We had staff from across our schools and services, and across our campuses, taking up the challenge. From Stoke-on-Trent to London, staff were sharing photos of their commutes that ranged from canal towpaths and fields, to busy roads and city settings.”
This year, the Staffordshire University Bicycle User Group (SUBUG) was set up to provide support to colleagues who currently cycle to work and those who want to give it a go.
The group is also focused on improving bike facilities at Staffordshire University and the group is working closely with estates to help improve facilities for cycle commuters.
