Influential new role for Pro Vice-Chancellor

Staffordshire University is celebrating the appointment of its Pro Vice-Chancellor for Digital Transformation to an influential new role.

Professor Raheel Nawaz has been appointed to Jisc board of trustees

This appointment recognises Raheel as a global thought leader who has advised governments on higher education, AI and digital transformation, and helped launch work-based learning programmes across three continents. We are sure he will continue to make an impact through his work with Jisc.

Professor Raheel Nawaz has been appointed to Jisc board of trustees which is responsible for ensuring the organisation’s strategic priorities reflect the needs of the higher education sector.

Jisc is the UK digital, data and technology agency which supports universities with digitising their education and research. This includes the Janet Network, the UK’s national research and education network, which is used by 18 million people. Jisc also took over from the Higher Education Statistics Agency as the Designated Data Body following their merger in 2022.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Nawaz said: “Jisc has been a leading transformational force in the UK education sector with immense historic impact and even greater future potential.

“I look forward to bringing together all aspects of my skills and experience to assist Jisc in its mission to improve lives through digital transformation of education and research.”

  • Other new appointments to the Jisc board of trustees are Professor Andy Collop, vice-chancellor, principal and chief executive of Hartpury University and Hartpury College and and Professor Helen O’Sullivan, provost and deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Chester.
