As the founder of Reliance Medical, Andrew has transformed the Staffordshire-based company into an international success story, while using his expertise to support communities and create opportunities for others.
Founded 20 years ago, Reliance Medical has grown to become the UK's largest trade supplier of first aid kits, workplace medical supplies and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The company has played a vital role in supplying medical equipment to disaster zones around the world and now operates internationally, with offices overseas and a manufacturing facility in China.
Andrew's entrepreneurial journey began at University of Staffordshire, where he completed an MBA in 2001. The knowledge, skills and confidence he gained during his studies helped provide the foundation for his business career and demonstrate the transformative impact of education.
Andrew received his honorary degree today alongside graduating students at University of Staffordshire’s graduation celebrations in Stoke-on-Trent.
Andrew said: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is one of the greatest honours that I have ever received, made even more special because it's bestowed upon me from my own university, the University of Staffordshire.”
Addressing the graduating cohort, he added: "You have done incredibly well to graduate from this fabulous institution. But your journey is just beginning, as perhaps my career is just ending. My advice would be to continue your journey of learning. Don't stop. Look for opportunities to grow in every way that you can.”
Today, Reliance Medical generates around £40 million in annual revenue and is recognised for its commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility, including removing plastic packaging from its first aid kits.
Under Andrew's leadership, the company has received numerous accolades, including Business of the Year and Growth Business of the Year at the University of Staffordshire Business Awards 2024, followed by the Innovation Award in 2025.
Beyond Reliance Medical, Andrew has built a diverse portfolio of businesses across the medical, manufacturing, hospitality, construction and property sectors. He is also passionate about giving back, serving as Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire and supporting a range of community and education organisations, including Cheshire Community Foundation, Ruby's Fund, East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, The Learning Partnership and The William Dean Education and Countryside Trust.
Andrew has maintained strong links with University of Staffordshire throughout his career, sharing his experiences through talks, podcasts and mentoring opportunities to inspire students to pursue their own ambitions.
