Dr Justin Champion

Senior Lecturer

Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business

I have worked for Staffordshire University now for a number of years. My area of teaching now is exclusively in the area of network communications. I am a member of the university's Cisco teaching team and have a wide set of experiences within this field. I mostly specialise in the area of routing and switching. In addition to my teaching I am also the award leader for the undergraduate networking provision.

Research interests

I am involved with research in a number of fields within the communications field. This is an interesting area which is developing with the increasing importance on wireless communications. We can see with the Internet of Things that it is predicted that an increasing number of devices will connect together to exchange information. The interesting part for this is the efficient exchange of information but also how to securely exchange this information. These devices will have limited processing power but will need to allow access to the information they store without allowing everyone access to the data. In the next few years we will see increasing examples of this and at the moment there are examples of this with the hacking into medical devices and cars to take remote control.

Teaching

I am involved with the teaching within the field of computer communications through both wired and cellular communications. This is a large field and I specialise in the efficient movement of traffic within an organisation. This simple term can be considered within an organisation like Staffordshire University through to the ISP’s exchanging information for the use on the Internet.
