About Me

After winning a D&AD student award and a scholarship for achievement I graduated with distinction from an MA in Graphic Design & Illustration at BIAD/UCE in 1992 - the study of which focused on visual teaching aids for adult literacy. This work prompted a variety of freelance commissions in collaboration with educational publishers and part-time teaching at local colleges in design and illustration before I finally moved into full-time education. My experience spans over 25 years across both the FE and HE sector and in the production of creative work in both graphic design and illustration. Personal practice is currently centered around experimentation with letterpress, exploring the creative interplay of type & image and related visual language.

Research Interests

Broad research interests are in; Building Creative Confidence, Creativity for Good (embedding socially responsible practice into the curriculum), Visual Problem Solving, Letterpress & Experimental printmaking (hybrid processes), and Collaborative Practice ...

Having worked collaboratively with women artists, I produced visual and written material for the Mare’s Tale: a UK and Netherlands touring exhibition in sculpture, printing, painting, textiles and animation, with sponsorship from North West Arts, Bury Metropolitan Borough Council and Bury Art Gallery and Museum. I also co-authored and designed a book and website to support the exhibition, published by Bury Art Gallery and Museum.

My personal practice and research is currently devoted to experimentation with letterpress techniques, exploring the creative interplay of type & image and related visual language. I exhibit my work, alongside diverse experimental printmakers, in national exhibitions.
